America’s two most urgent handicaps are its legal and media sectors. All-too-significant portions of both groups seem most proficient at driving their self-serving agendas like Transylvanian stakes through the heart of America’s pioneering spirit.
The media has lost its zeal for the truth, for honest and unbiased reporting. It has sold its collective soul in its all-consuming quest to be the movers and shakers of public opinion. The left-leaning journalists that dominate the media landscape see their mission not as purveyors of cold hard facts, but rather as proponents of and activists for “social justice,” for the remaking of society in the pursuit of the “greater good”. Their right-leaning counterparts spend most of their time fulminating about the hypocrisies of their leftist nemeses. Either way, individualism, capitalism, prosperity and freedom are all mere tools to be usurped into either the idealistic task of “social justice” or the sensationalist claptrap of a sore loser. The ultimate victim, of course, is the truth.
The lawyers, unsurprisingly, have become a law unto themselves. Whether it’s serving the questionable virtues of Guantanamo defendants or runaway malpractice insurance and frivolous class action suits, lawyers have proven themselves a force to (everywhere) be reckoned with. Medical costs, insurance premiums, limitations to personal freedoms and liberty – all are on the rise. Likewise the handicapping of our security services. So much for the rule of law.
Our future is firmly gripped, vice-like, by proselytizing journalists and far-too-powerful lawyers – the isolated citizen, our free man, is hunkering down amidst these twin onslaughts.
